Welcome to Our Sisters’ School
Our Sisters' School seeks to foster the intellectual, moral, social and physical development of its students, and to nurture in a small-school setting the full potential of their characters. The school's faculty and staff will work closely with students' families and other volunteers, building ties between school and community, and developing the kinds of personal and institutional support that will ensure the continuing success of our students in high school, college, and in later life.
Our Sisters' School has generated excitement among a broad group of people, many of whom have contributed wisdom and energy through the various startup committees. The school's development to date has been guided by a Board of Directors comprised of community leaders, educators, financiers, fund raisers, nonprofit executives and parents. The entire school family deeply appreciates and has been greatly enriched by this extraordinary diversity of input and participation.
All of us at Our Sisters' School hope that all of you -- all the good citizens of the Greater New Bedford area -- will be encouraged by these plans and will want to be supportive of our efforts. We believe that enhanced educational opportunities -- especially for young girls, for reasons explained below -- can play a major role in turning around our entire community.
And make no mistake: New Bedford is in every sense "our" community. Whether one lives in New Bedford itself, or in Westport or Marion or Dartmouth or Fairhaven, the "Whaling City" is the undeniable core of the region and the potential shining jewel of the entire Southcoast.
Our hope is that Our Sisters' School can play a major role in bringing this potential to fruition.
