Weekly Update: April 11, 2026

It is almost time for Spring Break. We have a 4 day week coming up with no school on Friday April 17th.

Third quarter report cards are in Friday Folders. We hope you look at them with your student and read the comments together.

This past week was as full as any! On Monday in Science class, 5th Grade watched Artemis II  flyby the Moon, surpassing a distance record set over 50 years ago during the Apollo era! It was perfect timing as 5th graders were finishing their space mission storyboards!

On Wednesday and Thursday nights, students in Grades 6 and 7 presented at the Whaling Museum. Family members, friends, OSS staff and board members came together to celebrate our students and their impressive presentations. They all did an incredible job, and the work is up through the end of May, so please stop by if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet!

The 7th grade work is titled: When Data Tells a Story: Art, Climate, and the Future We Shape. Students analyzed real-world scientific data sets collected and organized by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) and the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance (CCCFA), and integrated it into watercolor pieces inspired by Jill Pelto. The 6th grade work is about the history of New Bedford in the 1800’s, and is also an interdisciplinary presentation of learning integrating Humanities and our Creative Suite.
