“Who Runs the World? GIRLS!”

At Our Sisters’ School, we prepare students to become productive changemakers in a digital world by connecting academic rigor with purposeful, real-world learning. Since 2016, OSS has participated annually in the STEM4Girls conference at UMass Dartmouth, where students explore how STEM, technology, and innovation can expand opportunities for girls and strengthen the Blue Economy. This year, more than half of our students participated, with 18 students choosing to share their learning, elevate girls’ voices in STEM, and highlight the importance of preparing young women to shape the future of our coastal communities.

Serving as keynote speakers and facilitating two workshops for 200 local girls in grades 2–8, our students stepped beyond the classroom to show up as leaders, mentors, and role models, connecting with younger girls in the community and demonstrating what is possible when girls see themselves as innovators and changemakers. These experiences reflect our belief that technology is a tool—not a solution in itself—and that when paired with critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and student agency, it empowers learners to move beyond consuming information to creating knowledge, building community, and taking meaningful action in the world.

On Monday we are excited to welcome Andrea, our exchange student from Guatemala. She’ll be with us for 7 weeks. She is joining 7th grade, is staying with Ms. Herman, and has already met Selena, her bonus host sister!

This calendar was highlighted at Community Meeting, shared in Friday Folders and emailed to families. We hope you’ll keep a copy of it on hand so you can anticipate these scheduled Student Council and Family Engagement Committee events. There will be more events, and these are key. We hope to see you at the upcoming Oct. 29th Family Design Build workshop!

This week at CBC students watched and interacted with local Mashpee-Wampanoag members while they created a mishoon canoe. We spoke with leader Annawon and asked questions. Students got to observe the burning process, try archery, play a game, and watch traditional cooking methods. Notice in our community resources section below that we are sharing details about how you can learn more about all of this!
